What We Do

Great River Outfitters - is an outdoor adventure company that operates in late spring, summer and fall. Great River Outfitter hosts a broad range of adventurous outdoor activities for all ages and skill levels, from canoeing, kayaking, rafting, river tubing. We also offer deluxe tent camping. We cater to individuals, families and large groups looking for unique, fun and exciting things to do in New England; family reunions, retreats, weddings, banquets, parties and special events. The Path of Life Garden - is a landscape shaped by a revelation of the human spirit and inspired by our relationship with the natural world. Visitors travel through 18 works of art illustrating elements that constitute human life. In doing so, spectator is transformed into participant, engaging the 14 acres of sculptures and the surrounding expanse. Accented by the Connecticut River, the Path of Life Garden accommodates hiking, picnicking, fat-tire biking, yoga/meditation and unique camping opportunities.

Nicki Carmody has been with Great River Outfitters since 2010. Nicki began her working career in customer service and clerical work until she became a stay-at-home mom for her four children. In 2004, she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting Science and worked full-time as an Office Manager for a childcare center.

Nicki started working in the outdoor recreation industry in 2006 as a white-water kayak instructor level I & II and as a raft guide. After the initial opening of Great River Outfitters, in 2010, Nicki joined the team on a part-time weekend basis while maintaining a full-time job during the week. In 2012, she came on full-time as the shop director and contributed largely to the growth and operation of the business as a whole.

Nicki’s credentials are as follows: Swift Water Rescue, CPR & Basic First-Aid, and Wilderness First-Aid. earned certifications in SWR, CPR First Aid, and WFA.

Nicki is passionate about working in the recreation industry and enjoys facilitating experiences for individuals and families to spend time in the great outdoors.

Where It All Began

Great River Outfitters is owned by Craig Carmody, a 24-year veteran of the Army Special Forces and 2 years as a Junior ROTC Army Instructor, he has since dedicated his life to working in civilian outdoor adventure since 2004.

Craig’s credentials are as follows: ACA Certified Kayak Instructor (River and Coastal), Washington State University/BSA Certificate of Teaching: High Altitude Mountaineering, Basic and Advanced Outdoor Skills, Map & Compass, Introduction to Canoe and Kayak, Survival Backpacking and Climbing Fundamentals, Certified Jr. ROTC Instructor, Wilderness First Aid, CPR, Adventure Education Facilitator, Swift Water Rescue.

As an avid outdoor enthusiast, he has spent most of his life continuously challenging and engaging himself in numerous outdoor activities. Craig has a love and passion for kayaking, canoeing, mountaineering and backpacking, which has afforded him extensive opportunity to be able to share his skills and experiences with others who are enthusiastic about outdoor recreation.
